"Covid-19 Part IV: The Omicron Variant" has struck

Hi all, tl;dr: The club meeting on January 26, 2022 has been cancelled. The Board meeting will still take place via Zoom. Details will be posted here as soon as the meeting is set up. The deets: When we had the Christmas party, I remember thinking, "Boy, I'm sure glad I won't have to deal with this Covid hullabaloo like Doug and George did!". Then somebody decided that a FOURTH wave would be a good idea, and here we are in January 2022 dealing with an April 2020 scenario. My apologies for cancelling, it is something I've been looking at for a few weeks now and hoping I wouldn't have to do. There was discussion among the Board members about what to do, and there were opinions on all sides. After considering various positions, I've made the executive decision to call off the January meeting. If you have any disgruntlement at this decision, please direct your feelings toward me and me alone. They are as subject to my totalitarian abuse of authority as everyone else. :) I hope that in the future, we will be able to have an online broadcast of the meeting so we don't have to cancel outright. The Board's Zoom meeting next week will be a dry run for that. I hope we'll be able to get it to work right; if you have troubles connecting, please understand we're trying things that are brand new for the club. I know there are lots of feelings about Covid and vaccines and mitigation measures and mandates and all kinds of things. I hope that the good faith effort of canceling this meeting can be accepted in the spirit in which it is offered: an abundance of caution against the club officially supporting events that have the potential to threaten club member safety. Many of our club members are at extreme risk for Covid, and if I can't prevent everyone's infection, at least I can help to not spread it. We can discuss the politics for days on end if you like, and maybe I'm being overly conservative. I'd rather be accused of being a Covid coward than a contributor to someone's ill health, or worse. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to respond to this post or contact me directly. Heavy pans, Dave
